2013 Holiday Event Guide for Austin and the Hill Country

Your 2013 Holiday event guide is here! Celebrate the holidays all throughout November and December and don’t miss a single event with this guide to Central Texas Holiday Events. From music, to lights, to unique festivities, we’ve got you covered! Start with Santa’s Grand arrival at the Hill Country Galleria on Thurs. Nov 21st, Light the Holiday Tree at Zilker Park on Dec. 1st, go ice skating on the plaza at Whole Foods on Lamar, or check out the Holiday Wine trail in the Texas Hill Country. Then, don’t forget to check out all the music and dance performances around town including, Ballet Austin’s “The Nutcracker” and the Trans Siberian Orchestra! Twisted X Brewing Company - Dripping Springs TX

Twisted X Grand Opening Party!

Twisted X Brewing Company is opening soon! To celebrate, Twisted X is throwing a Grand Opening Party with food, vendors, live music, entertainment and, of course, great handcrafted beer!

If you’ve driven down Hwy 150 lately, you may have noticed the 9,000 square-foot brewery going up just outside of Dripping Springs. Texas-founded Twisted X Brewing Co. has sold beer from a Cedar Park location since May 2011. Now, after two years of planning and building, the microbrewery has moved its headquarters to this great space in the Hill Country town of Dripping Springs.

The brewery, known for its handcrafted Mexican brews dubbed Tex Mex Beer, will host a grand-opening party next weekend from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 23 at the new location. On the entertainment list: live music (including a mariachi band), a juggler, magician, and balloon and caricature artists. Partygoers can also explore the new space, which includes a larger brewing system and a 2,000-square-foot tasting room and bar.

Also onsite will be food trucks from Salt Lick, Phil’s Ice House and Amy’s Ice Cream, plus other vendors. Tickets cost $25 and include a backpack, two beer tokens, a stadium cup and T-shirt. Guests must be 21 to purchase tickets, but youth 18 and younger are welcome with adult supervision. Tip: Bring lawn chairs.

Austin Economy Ranked No. 1 in the Country

Austin Economy Ranked No 1The Austin economy is the number one economy out of 102 cities measured by The Business Journals’ On Numbers monthly report.
·        Austin has been the strongest market of all the cities, occupying first place nine times in 15 months and never finishing lower than third.
·        Austin has added 67,800 private-sector jobs during the past five years, an increase of 11.0 percent. No other market has grown faster than 8 percent.
·        Austin scored an 83.9 out of 100 based on 18 economic factors
·        With an unemployment rate of 5.2 percent and five-year wages growth from October 2008 through October 2013 of nearly 15 percent, Austin had held first place for eight of the first 10 months in 2013. The city’s average weekly earnings per worker are now $919.12.
·        Austin is the only city in the nation with double-digit percentage job growth over the last five-year period, at just under 11 percent. By comparison, no other U.S. city has seen five-year job growth higher than 8 percent.
·        Dallas-Fort Worth is No. 2 in the country and Houston No. 4.
